2009-10 Pack Events (Monthly Details)
(Yearly Planning Calendar (PDF))

Pack Overview

Pack 710 draws most of it's membership from  Sherwood Oregon. We meet at Archer Glen Elementary, but have scouts from most of the elementary schools in town.  We have about 65 boys (grades 1-5) divided into 10 dens. Our pack generally meets on the last Tuesday of the month and we also have one Pack activity a month.

This website is meant to give parents information about the activities of your pack including pack outings, service projects, and contact information. We are also working on adding information and links to help with your son's advancement.
Next Pack Events:

The Theme for the BBQ this year is "Gaucho Games", so break out your ponchos and come join the fun.

The Pack provides the main entree part of the meal, but each family needs to bring a "pot luck' item to be shared with the Pack.   The main entree will be beef and chicken tacos.

Here is the breakdown of the items that each group should bring:

Tigers, Den 5 & 8:  Vegetables w/dip

Summer Time Pack Activities.  Here is the list of activities that we are planning for the summer.   Scouts that participate in one activity each month qualify for the special Summer Time segment and pin.  The scouts participation also helps the Pack qualify for the Summer Pack Award in which we can earn a new ribbon for our Pack Flag.

June 26th
(this is the rescheduled date), Pack Bike Ride, Champoeg State Park, 1:30 - 3:00pm.  The Pack will take a leisurely family bike ride from the Oak Grove day use area to the Butteville General Store for some ice cream.   We will all meet in the Oak Grove day use parking lot and hit the trail from there.  All family members are invited to attend our Summertime activities.  Don't forget money for ice cream at the General Store and remember to pack along water and sunscreen as it should be a nice warm day.

July 17th, Robin Hood Festival, Old Town Sherwood. 10:00 - 11:00am.   This is a yearly Pack favorite event as we march in the annual Robin Hood Festival parade.   The parade stages along Century Drive by Target.   The parade then proceeds down Century Drive and continues along Sherwood Blvd into Old Town.   The parade turns at 1st Street and heads toward St. Francis Church and Cedar Creek assisted living homes.   The scouts can be met in this area, or back at the Target parking lot.   The float will be constructed by our current Wolf Dens 1 and 3.

The float construction party will be July 16th, from 6 - 8pm at the Roos residence, 20555 SW 216th.

As part of the Boy Scouts of America's 100th Anniversary, Portland Scouts are inviting area residents to join in a celebration at PGE Park to participate in a historic broadcast of the Centennial Celebration Show from the 2010 National Scout Jamboree, an event at Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia, that attracts more than 40,000 Scouts and Scouting volunteers from across the country.
The event marks the first time in BSA history that the entire Scouting community - past, present, and future - will have the opportunity to join together to experience an inspirational and interactive jamboree arena show, which will be broadcast via satellite to the select locations nationwide.
The Cascade Pacific Council, BSA "Shining Light" event will take place on Saturday, July 31, 2010 at PGE Park from 5pm, including the inspirational "Shining Light" nationwide broadcast and will conclude with the Portland Beavers vs. the Salt Lake City Bees.  The Cascade Pacific Council, BSA event will shine a light on Scouting with teh help of several exciting activities for the entire community to enjoy.

August 14th, Portland Beavers Sleepover, PGE Park.  7:00pm - next morning.   The Pack participates every year in this fun event sponsered by the Portland Beavers baseball team.  The scouts get to watch the Beavers play a great baseball game and then camp for the night on the outfield of the baseball park.  After the game, a few players meet the scouts down on the field and talk with them and answer a few questions.  Then the big screen at the stadium will play a movie to entertain everyone as they set up camp.

August 21st, Pack Hike, Jawbone Flats. 10:00 - 3:00pm.   This is a great hike through an old growth forest along Opal Creek.  This is a beautiful 3 mile hike up a well groomed road which leads to a restored old mining village which is now maintained by The Opal Creek Ancient Forest Center.   Along the way, there are old mining relics to view along with the ponds and waterfalls of Opal creek.   Prepare to bring all the water you need to drink, as there is no potable water along the trail.   The Pack will stop for lunch about 2 miles up the trail at the Merten Mill area which is next to the Cascadia de los Ninos (Sawmill Falls).   For more information on this hike, click here.

Also, as a reminder, summer camp also counts as a summer time events toward earning the Summertime awards.
